KANSAS CITY, Mo. Greg Little Bengals Jersey . -- Marlins prodigy Jose Fernandez simply smiled when he was asked about leaving Tuesday nights start against Kansas City in the seventh inning with the game still scoreless. Best not to rankle the skipper by saying something amiss. Besides, the young right-hander had a good seat to watch Christian Yelich single home the go-ahead run with one out in the 10th inning, giving the Marlins a 1-0 victory. "I like to pitch and everybody knows it," Fernandez said. "I like to compete. I would have loved to stay out there pitching. I was feeling really strong today." Fernandez was matched by wily Royals veteran Bruce Chen, each of them allowing just three hits before they turned over the game to their bullpens. It continued to extra innings before Kansas City reliever Kelvin Herrera (4-6) brushed the jersey of the Marlins Jake Marisnick with a pitch in the 10th. Marisnick stole second and then scored on Yelichs single through the right side of the infield, his third hit of the game. "Try to get a good pitch to hit and drive Jake in from second," Yelich said. "It was hard to score runs for both teams. I knew if we could push one in wed have a good chance to win." Chad Qualls (3-1) earned the win, while Steve Cishek survived a single in the bottom half of the 10th for his 25th save. Cishek has converted 20 in a row, the third-best streak in the majors behind the Braves Craig Kimbrel and the Royals Greg Holland. The Royals, who had won 17 of their last 20, were trying to wrap up their eighth consecutive series victory. Theyll try again in the finale on Wednesday afternoon. "Bruce was phenomenal. Fernandez was everything we had heard he was and seen on video," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "It was just an old-fashioned pitching duel." Indeed, the game began as a matchup between a 36-year-old, soft-tossing junkballer who began the season in the bullpen and a 21-year-old, flame-throwing phenom who defected from Cuba. Chen and Fernandez matched each other pitch-for-pitch most of the night. The Royals left-hander allowed a leadoff single to Yelich but didnt give up another hit until the fourth. His beguiling 84 mph fastball -- the term "fastball" applied loosely -- helped Chen strike out six batters and deal with three walks over his seven innings. Otherwise, the Marlins spent most of the night popping balls into shallow centre field, trudging back to the dugout and wondering why someone who couldnt throw harder than some Little League pitchers kept baffling them with his dizzying array of floating changeups. He lowered his ERA to 0.94 since replacing Luis Mendoza in the Royals rotation. "I think I got a couple hits off Bruce somewhere along the way," said Marlins manager Mike Redmond, who retired as a player after the 2010 season. "Hey, a testament to him, hes still out there making pitches and he shut us down. I hadnt seen him pitch for a long time, but he did a great job against us tonight, and hes done a great job for them." The problem for the Royals? Fernandez has been even better for the Marlins. He allowed a single in the first and another in the second, but then retired 13 straight before a leadoff walk in the seventh. The Royals managed to get runners on first and second with two outs before George Kottaras flied out to centre to end the inning. It was the most trouble that Fernandez was in all night. "He throws everything for strikes," Kottaras said. "Hes got all those plus pitches to work with. He was attacking the zone. We were falling behind. He had us at his mercy for a while." Fernandez didnt pick up the win, of course. He had to watch from the bench after Redmond pulled him from the game. But he still managed his sixth straight start without a defeat. "Its a baseball game," he said, smiling again. "We won." NOTES: Marlins OF Chris Coghlan (right calf nerve irritation) will begin a rehab assignment Wednesday at Class A Jupiter. He plans to play five innings at 3B. ... Royals 3B Mike Moustakas (left calf strain) was held out of the lineup. An MRI exam confirmed the strain and hes day to day, Yost said. ... Kansas City RHP Ervin Santana will start against Miami RHP Jacob Turner in Wednesdays series finale. A.J. Green Bengals Jersey Will Clarke Bengals Jersey . Its a blessing and a burden for nine sons of former NHL players who are all expected to be taken in the first four rounds of the draft this weekend. http://www.bengalsauthenticproshop.com/Youth-Devon-Still-Bengals-Jersey/ . Former two-time Olympic gold medallist Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle tested positive for the stimulant methylhexanamine in both her "A" and "B" samples, the German Olympic Committee said. SOUTHPORT, England -- Mo Martin knew she hit her 3-wood exactly how she wanted on the 18th hole at Royal Birkdale. With the ball slightly below her feet, just under 240 yards away and a strong wind at her back, she let it rip and watched the ball track toward the flag. Martin thought it was short. Then she thought it might be too long. Moments later, she realized just how good it was. "I could hear it hit the pin from the fairway," Martin said. "That was a pretty fun feeling." The ball rolled into the centre of the flagstick and settled 6 feet away for an eagle, and when no one could catch her, the 31-year-old American became a major champion Sunday at the Ricoh Womens British Open. "I think I still need to be pinched," Martin said after closing with an even-par 72 for a one-shot victory over Shanshan Feng of China and Suzann Pettersen of Norway. It was Martins first eagle of the year -- one of the shortest hitters in the game, she doesnt get many opportunities. She had not won on the LPGA Tour in 63 previous tries. And on a wind-swept Sunday when no one broke par, she was never closer than two shots of the leaders the entire final round. The best shot of her life changed everything. "An absolutely perfect 3-wood," she said. "When it was in the air, I said, Sit. And then I said, Stop. And then when it was going toward the hole, I said, OK, I dont have anything more to say to that ball. I actually heard it hit the pin. Its definitely one to remember." She turned and did a little jig in the fairway. An hour later, it turned out to be the winning shot when Feng and Inbee Park of South Korea couldnt stay under par. Both needed one birdie over the two par-5 closing holes at Royal Birkdale. Feng missed birdie putts of 15 and 10 feet and shot 75. Park missed a 12-foot birdie putt on the 17th, and then put her tee shot in the right rough on the easy 18th hole and wound up with a bogey for a 77. Martin, who finished at 1-under 287, was on the practice range preparing for a playoff that never happened when she hugged her caddie, Kyle Morrison. "Is this real life?" she said. It seemed like a fairy tale for Martin. Growing up with modest means, her father built a cage in theeir driveway for her to practice hitting balls. Cincinnati Bengals Authentic Jersey. She walked on at UCLA. She needed financial help to keep her dream alive, including the six years it took just to reach the LPGA Tour. Martin said she would keep trying if she woke up happy, felt she was still contributing something to womens golf and could pay her bills. And here she is -- Mighty Mo, never happier. When she returned from the range, players gathered around her cart to celebrate with a champagne shower. "Its still soaking in, along with champagne in my jacket," Martin said. "This is just unbelievable. Its literally a dream come true." It was a disappointment for Park, trying to become the seventh woman to capture four of the LPGAs major. She had a two-shot lead at the turn until the high grass grabbed the bottom of her wedge on the 10th, sending her to a double bogey. She fell out of the lead by going long on the 14th for bogey, and never caught up. "Made a lot of mistakes that I really didnt need to make," Park said. "Obviously the last hole drive was really disappointing." Pettersen finished birdie-birdie that allowed her to share second place, but not enough to atone for a pair of double bogeys earlier in the round. Martin earned $474,575 -- she had $599,760 in career money when she arrived in England. Americans now have won the first three majors of the LPGA Tour season for the first time since 1999, with Martin following Lexi Thompson at the Kraft Nabisco Championship and Michelle Wie at the U.S. Womens Open. A more likely candidate to extend that streak at Royal Birkdale would have been Stacy Lewis, the defending champion, who also started only three shots behind. Lewis didnt make a birdie until the 18th hole and closed with a 78. Wie missed the cut, and Thompson finished 15 shots out of the lead. Martin had a three-shot lead going into the weekend, building her strategy of keeping the ball in the fairway. But she had a 77 in the third round, and that figured to be the end of her chances. After two bogeys in five holes to start the final round, she was solid the rest of the way. And then she was simply spectacular at the end. "Safe to say its the best week of my life," she said.
